Minnesota Composers Gallery |
This is an historical archive for streaming the original MN Composers Gallery Radio Programs so you may listen to the guest composers and their music. This website also includes the Radio broadcast shows of the first West Banks School of Music Jazz Composers Series 1985 which I also engineered and produced for KFAI FM Community Radio.
Eventually more details on music, performers, air dates etc.. will be added over time. I've also or soon will include some tapes that are in a raw unedited form; such as prerecorded interviews and other such source materials. Sometimes that is all I have left of the program that might not of been recorded when aired. The composer's consistent astute discourse, as well as their excellent music is why these programs are archived here for your listening pleasure.

MCG 1985-12-19 Jim Reilly - 30min |
Jim Reilly graduated from Liverpool High School & Graduated from Hauppauge High School 1961, followed by graduation from Syracuse University in 1965.
About Jim:
"Live without music? you gotta be kidding! "
Jim Reilly performs as both a tenor and pianist. He founded the Nordvendt Concert Series in the Fall of 1997 when he was Director of Music at Mindekirken in Minneapolis (Minnesota's only surviving Norwegian language congregation). He continues to administer this series, which has presented over thirty local and visiting artists in Nordic repertoire.
He has accompanied many Twin Cities area performers and visiting singers including Norwegians Marit Osnes Aambø, Elisabeth Tandberg, and Birgitte Christiansen, and he has himself sung the first American performances of works by Norwegian composers Bjarne Sløgedal and Wolfgang Plagge. He has also performed with Finnish soprano Eeva Savolainen for the Scandinavian Society of Western Pennsylvania and at Finlandia University. But his performing has been as varied as all- Kurt Weill programs in the Twin Cities and Massachusetts (as both a pianist and singer), singing the lead in Debussy's opera L'Enfant Prodigue, and Latin American and Spanish music concerts (as an accompanist/pianist). Other recent programs have been at the Alliance Française in Minneapolis (including music in French by the Norwegian composers Halfdan Kjerulf and Johann Selmer) and a solo voice recital in June, 2007 including works by the Dane Carl Nielsen and Finland's Toivo Kuula.
He has not only performed in Minnesota and a dozen other states, but has also sung for the Nordland Musikkfestuke in Bodø, Norway, and accompanied recitals in Holland. This past summer, in connection with the exhibit "A Mirror of Nature: Nordic Landscape Painting, 1840-1910", he accompanied Norwegian soprano May-Britt Hovdenak at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and played music of Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnson at a reception for the Ambassador from Iceland.
In September, 2007 he accompanied French soprano Nicole Fournié in her American recital debut, and in February he sang a performance of Nordic Music at Waldorf College in Iowa with Icelandic-American pianist Kristín Jonína Taylor. He has presented solo piano recitals of Nordic repertoire in Chicago (Fall 2007) and San Diego (April 2008), and recently sang Icelandic art songs at the annual Icelandic Samkoma dinner in the Twin Cities.
